Vlado Kreslin: The gambled watch
"My grandfather brought a silver pocket watch from the front on Soča and then played it in his own inn Central in Beltinci. Fifty years later, his father bought it from the village watchmaker Marič. He paid 20,000 dinars for it.
His still works and shines in his pocket vest."
Vlado Kreslin (1953), a celebrated Slovenian singer-songwriter, troubadour and poet, started his career in the seventies, starting from his native village of Beltinci in Prekmurje with the band Apollo. He played with the band Horizont during his studies in Ljubljana and later with the bands Martin Krpan, Beltinška Banda and Mali bogovi. He created under the influence of Draga Mlinarac, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Donovan, and based on good foundations he incorporated his rocker folk style with elements of ethnic music into them, gaining a large number of admirers even outside his native Slovenia. His discography includes more than twenty sound carriers and four collections of poetry.
