Summary

Steinar Opstad: Work and dream

Steinar Opstad (1971) appeared in literature in 1996 with the collection of poems Tavler og bud (Tiles and messages), which drew attention to the extremely gifted poet and was awarded as the best debut work published in Norway that year. After that, he published eight more books of poetry, with which he gained a reputation as one of the best contemporary Norwegian and Nordic lyricists. He also writes essays. He edited several anthologies of contemporary Norwegian poetry. He is the winner of prestigious literary awards. It has been translated into several languages.

Opstad's poem is an invitation to dialogue, an invitation addressed to readers to actively participate in it. Children's innocence, curiosity and admiration for the world are often present in that poem, into whose space the poet tries to penetrate, encompass it and interpret it in an equally innocent, curious and amazed language. It also contains the desire to make things unusual, the desire to surprise and amaze usually with the unusual. The poet simultaneously blasphemes and sanctifies, provokes and encourages, is ironic and sarcastic, witty and, above all, serious. In other words: it never leaves us indifferent. With this comprehensive selection from his poetry, Steinar Opstad presents himself to the reading public in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region for the first time.
