The Death of Grass (sh. Smrt trave) is postapocalyptic science fiction novel by the British writer John Christopher published in 1956. The plot describes how a virus attacks and destroys all plants from the poaceae family, causing not only all grass to disappear in the world, but also cereals, which causes a cataclysmic mass famine and collapse civilizations. The protagonist is John Custance, a British engineer who, together with his family and a friend, travels through England trying to reach an isolated valley where there is a preserved farm potatoes and how he becomes a witness, but also a participant in brutal violence in an effort to survive.
In 1970, a feature film was made based on the novel entitled No Blade of Grass.
The Death of Grass was published in the 1970s by the Belgrade publishing house Yugoslavia under the title Smrt trave.
