Summary
Nick Hornby: All for One Boy
The novel All for One Boy is actually a story about two boys: Will is a thirty-six-year-old fashionable, half-grown kid with a substantial annual income from inherited dad's royalties, and Marcus, the child of recently divorced parents, is a twelve-year-old with serious life dilemmas and a twisted sense of humor, who unfortunately has no idea what is cool and why everyone at school likes him they avoid. Will is not a very likable character - he is irredeemably lazy, incurably cynical and unnecessarily pretentious guy who feels disgusted at the very thought of all words that start with "o", such as: responsibility, obligation, relationship and so on.
One day Will will, completely logically, conclude that it is best to shoot divorcees with children, for they are perfectly suitable prey for Will - they are happy with as little attention as Will wants to give them, and there is no danger that "the morning after" she will move into his perfectly decorated single apartment with a toothbrush. After creating the illusion of a phantom son, following the idea developed above, Will will become a member of the Divorced Parents Club, and through a series of events beyond his control, he will meet Marcus. Somehow, Will's problems will start at that moment.
Marcus wants to find a surrogate father and at the same time a good match for his mother. Will doesn't want to be part of Marcus' plan, but in his quiet way, Marcus can be unreasonably persistent. Will, despite all his panicked attempts to resist, will slowly but surely be involved in his worst nightmare, in the emotional chaos of ordinary people's lives
