Summary
Clemens Meyer: In stone
The kaleidoscope of Meyer's picturesque characters witnessed the fall of the Wall in 1989 and the political, economic and legislative transition towards new forms of freedom, which are often distorted to this day. These persons are in various ways involved in sexual work, which is not romanticized in this text, nor is it described voyeuristically, but is thematized even when it is forced or related to minors, in an unnamed city that strongly resembles Leipzig. This testimony about the fringes of society, prostitution, pimping and the fates associated with them opens up new perspectives related to this economic branch that is becoming more and more powerful and more accessible, but which is still not devoid of crime and exploitation. Clemens Meyer researched the aforementioned topics for fifteen years, while he worked intensively on this monumental novel for about eight years.
