Summary
Merethe Lindstrom: I believe it is lonely there
This book is a selection of novels and stories by an established and award-winning Norwegian writer. What unites them is the existential insecurity of the narrators, men and especially women who, through the prism of the situation they are in, reexamine their relationships with their partners, children, brothers, and parents. These heroes, unsure of themselves, as well as of the actions of their loved ones, try to find the anchor points of their lives, but often only come across something that further clouds the already incomprehensible past and problematic present. Lindstrom carefully builds his style on the edge of the poetic, and places of silence, unspoken and undefined emotions, speak of all that is repressed in man, which sometimes comes to light in the form of incomprehensible actions. The author's style leaves space for the reader to question the characters, which ultimately results in questioning one's own places of existential uncertainty and loss.
