Heavy, copper-plated weights and brass hemispherical bowls for mixing the dough, along with black pans and ribbed plates for baking on the fire or cylindrical rings of the wood stove, hung from the hook like hangers on the chef's gallows. On the shelves that overhung this small hanger, deep pots and a couple of large bronzes were lined up, while among them lay an oblong, elegant supper for cooking fish, decorated with profiled brass handles, a rarely used but shining favorite of my nonna, like the other vessels, once a year also coated with pewter and non-toxic zinc glazes. That orchestra shone like trumpets, trombones, bassoons and horns, instead of being gilded, the outside was decorated with a layer of kitchen copper, and it was, together with a large rack, firmly nailed to the wall, so that it wouldn't fall off the wall stage before the first beats. Fortunately, under that complex shelf with durable old dishes, some pieces of which are still hanging in the new kitchen on the same shelf, which I inherited together with two copper-plated teapots and a brass dough ball, there was once a table...
