Summary
Slavomir Sambunjak: Grammatosophy of Constantine the Philosopher of Thessalonica
Hypothesis about the origin and meaning of Glagolitic script
The author of the book about Constantine the Philosopher of Thessalonica (Ćiril), the creator of one of the Slavic alphabetic letters for the purpose of Christianizing the Slavs, approaches Constantine's composition of that letter from a completely different point of view than existing research. He develops the theory that Constantine used mainly various pictorial symbols, matrices and the like, constructing the script on the basis of thoughts that arise from such symbols and meanings, which through sacred art originally speak about God and the organization of faith. Thus, the creator of the Glagolitic alphabet actually created a unique and complete work, not excluding the connection with other letters, from which it differs precisely by the complexity that points to the symbolism of the Christian faith. The sources and methodology of the work on the examples show the author's assumptions and those of others who hypothetically contributed to the elucidation of the etymology of that script in the study of Glagolitic script.
