Summary
M.V. Lomonosov: Corpuscular Philosophy
Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov (1711 - 1765) is a scientist and intellectual ahead of his time, not only within the framework of his native Russia but also within the framework of European science. This edition is dedicated to one of his most significant contributions to physics and chemistry: persistent insistence on the idea that matter is made of corpuscles and attempts to explain all the physical and chemical properties of different substances on the basis of this idea. We are witnessing the consistency of the approach, which leads to great explanations (but also a detour when it rejects the field concept which in today's physics is complementary to the concept of particles in explaining nature). The editor has selected articles characteristic of this approach, which Lomonosov himself called "corpuscular philosophy", but also polemics, correspondence and even scientist's notes, which indicate his way of thinking in the search for the foundations of what constitutes nature. The book is of inestimable value for anyone who wants to get to know the work of a genius whose contributions were only properly appreciated in the 20th century.
