Francis M. Cornford: Unwritten Philosophy and Other Essays
The collection "Unwritten Philosophy and Other Essays" was edited and published in 1950 by Cornford's student William Guthrie (1906-1981), the latter the third Lorenz Professor of Ancient Philosophy and a member of the British Academy. Of Cornford's eight collected essays, only three have been previously published: "The Unconscious Element in Literature and Philosophy" (1921); "Plato's Commonwealth" (1935); "Greek Natural Philosophy and Modern Science" (1938). Five old essays are printed here for the first time.
