Basic features of a metaphysics of knowledge (Grundzüge einer Metaphysike der Erkenntnis) is one of the key works of the German philosopher Nicolai Hartmann. The work was originally published in 1921, and is available in the Croatian language in the publication of the Zagreb publisher Naprijed (1976) in a translation by Branko Despot.

Criticism of idealism: Hartmann departs from traditional German idealism and lays the foundations for scientific ontology and epistemological realism.
Transcendence of the object: He claims that cognition is a relationship between subject and object, whereby the object itself does not depend on cognition and retains its independent ontological structure.
Phenomenology of cognition: It starts from the analysis of cognition as a conscious act, investigating how it is even possible to access what it transcends the subject itself.
Limits of knowledge: ontologizes knowledge by emphasizing that the human mind does not construct reality, but encounters and discovers it in its layers.
