Summary
Hari Steiner: Mirroring power: conversations with politicians of the world
The conversations prompted by some important events are especially interesting, such as with Emperor Selassie, Modiba Keita and King Mahendra about the First Summit of Non-Aligned Countries, with Vladimir Velebit about the Trieste crisis, with Hibakush about nuclear disasters, with Flugbail about Berlin. Wall, Budimir Lončar on the meeting of heads of diplomacy of the Balkan countries and the Ninth Summit of the Non-Aligned in Belgrade, Helmut Šmit on the meeting of former presidents and prime ministers, Mazoviecki and Manolić on the war in Yugoslavia...
In his fifty-year journalistic career, Štajner marked a long period in the history of Yugoslavia with his reporting, especially interviews, and set some professional standards in journalism that new generations of journalists should follow. The skill of writing a good interview means getting to know the interlocutor better and more fully, and through questions and answers to get a broad, comprehensive view of the times, occasions and events that marked the second half of the twentieth century. The choice of world leaders that Steiner had the opportunity to interview testifies to the position and reputation of the former Yugoslavia, its significance on the political map of the world, but also to the reputation of the profession whose prominent representative is the author of this book.
