Summary
The Croatian National Revival (1790 – 1848) was a key national-political and cultural movement that shaped the modern Croatian nation, united the fragmented Croatian lands and saved the Croatian identity from Hungarianization and Germanization. The movement in its most active phase (1835 – 1843) took place under the name Illyrian movement, using the ancient Illyrian name in order to bridge regional divisions and gather all South Slavs.
