Summary
Bojan Dimitrijević - Radovan Cukić: Zagreb - May 1945
Photojournalist Tanjuga (Telegraphic Agency of New Yugoslavia) Branko Savić, following the units of the Yugoslav Army on the move towards Zagreb at the beginning of May 1945, took 596 photos documenting the period from May 4 to 17 of that year. They "cover" the partisan advance towards the capital of Croatia, from their entry into the Ustasa camp Jasenovac, all the way to their entry into Zagreb and the arrival of the president of ZAVNOH, the poet Vladimir Nazor, in Zagreb. These photos were not known to the public until now, and in this book they are published for the first time.
The photomonography composed of 365 selected photos is accompanied by two introductory studies. One is about the historical context of the end of the Second World War, with special reference to the events around Zagreb in May 1945. The second, on the other hand, provides readers with information about the author of the photographs, about their discovery, as well as about the peculiarities of this photographic collection kept in the Museum of Yugoslavia, which is the source for this photomonography.
