Summary
Vlatko Pavletić: Reminiscences about himself and others
Vlatko Pavletić is one of the rare living direct participants and omnipresent witnesses to the tumultuous events of Croatia's recent cultural and political history from the middle of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century. century. He has been active in the fight for the Croatian language, national identity and freedom of expression in the desired democratic environment since the founding of the legendary literary group "Circles", later as a signatory of the Declaration on the Name and Position of the Croatian Literary Language, and especially in Matica Hrvatska as one of the famous group of those arrested in February 1972. He participated in the creation of an independent Croatia from 1990, first as the Minister of Culture, Education, Sports and Technical Culture, then as an assemblyman for four years as President of the Croatian Parliament and for the same number of years as Vice-President of the Croatian Parliament. His Reminiscences about himself and others are texts credibly based on facts, and shaped literary as novelettes designed with a theme and punctuated at each end. They reveal the author's life and activity during more than half a century on the scene of culture and politics in Croatia, but also the author's nexus of experiences about society and people, about national and state lighthouses and signposts. Everything is so interwoven and interwoven with facts and thoughts, that after that, unobtrusively, the author's views and consistent views emerge from the background, reinforced by polemical statements. Therefore, it is clear that the book Reminiscences about myself and others brings a wealth of information and personal testimonies, but also so far unknown discoveries about some people and political events, very often intimately stripped to the very core of the author's privacy, which will cause a flood of reactions both among friends and those who are not.
