Summary
The period from the 7th to the 10th century represents the foggiest centuries of the Serbian past. The Slavic tribes are expanding and moving towards the southeast of Europe, and among them the name Serbs stands out very early on. For the first time, a book in the language of historical and archaeological science studiously and excitingly narrates the story of that journey. Using archival written sources as well as new archeological research, it talks about the first known Serbian prince Dervan and the land of Bojki, the origin of the title of prefect, ancient Slavic settlements with the remains of pagan temples. The book contains extremely important discoveries such as the existence of a ruler's palace on Serbian soil from the 8th century, which represents the earliest known such building in the Slavic world, or several churches significantly older than the diocese of Raška, which shows that the Serbs accepted Christianity earlier than previously believed and that the first known Christian temples among the Slavs were located there. The edition is enriched with historical maps and illustrations of important archaeological finds, buildings, fortifications and settlements of the oldest Serbian state.
