Toni Nikolić, Jasenka Topić: Red Book of the Vascular Flora of Croatia
The Red Book of the Vascular Flora (ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms) is the result of a large red book project funded by the former Ministry of Environmental Protection and Spatial Planning. The author of the book was the Botanical Institute of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, and the State Institute for Nature Protection undertook the publication of the collected data to the general public, with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
It is known that plants are the basis of biological diversity. Namely, they are a source of food and a habitat for animals and people, so we can say that there is no survival without plants.
There are more than 12,500 vascular plants in the flora of Europe and they are considered the best-studied flora today. The diversity of geographical and climatic features contributed to the great diversity of European flora. Such diversity is also characteristic of Croatia.
