Summary
Erich Fromm: To have or to be
One of the most famous works of Erich Fromm (1900-1980) To have or to be is today, at least in our country, more necessary than before. Here and now, in the age of predatory capitalism, when social valuation has been reduced to a primitive equation: to have = to succeed, we rediscover Fromm not only as a critic of (former) bureaucratic socialism, but also as a critic of the consumer mentality and a life directed towards hoarding and possessions, whereby a humane society and a healthy attitude towards life, being, suffer. Fromm, certainly an important thinker and denouncer of human unfreedom and neuroses, advocates for a healthy society and a complete person, for his freedom and spontaneity.
