Summary
Peter Przekop: Beat chronic pain
What is chronic pain and why do so many people suffer from it? What is the difference between pain and painful suffering? Why do many people think that it is not possible to get rid of pain? Why endure unnecessary suffering?
Very early in life we learn what pain means and we get used to the idea that it is mostly connected with some injuries and then we talk about short (acute) pain. But when the pain lasts for months, then we are talking about chronic pain, for which the accepted definition reads: any pain that lasts three months or longer. Then we usually use the prescribed therapy to reduce the pain. But what happens when the same therapy prescribed for people with the same diseases results in a cure for someone, but not for someone else? The answer is still a subject of research, but the author believes and advocates the thesis that chronic pain is experienced in the brain. Therefore, this book is not intended to help you "fix" where the pain originates - neck, back, joints..., it deals with you, your whole "brain - mind - body", introduces you to the vicious cycle of chronic pain and teaches you how to break the cycle of your brain, mind and body.
What psychological methods help drugs work better?
How does the brain react to chronic pain?
How do different personality types react to pain?
How do chronic stress, unpleasant emotions and depression increase pain?
What is the role of «mindfulness» and «Qgong» in recovery?
The author warns us that we often do not use all our mental and brain potentials to get rid of the suffering brought by chronic pain. An excellent practical guide for anyone who wants to become active and get out of the role of one who just suffers.
