Summary
Milan Pelc: The Bible of the Simple
Illustrations of Croatian and Slovenian Protestant Books of the 16th Century
The book deals with the neglected area of book illustration created within the framework of the Croatian and Slovenian reformation movement. These are publications of a religious nature printed in Germany in Latin, Glagolitic and Cyrillic for recipients in Slovenia, Croatia and other South Slavic regions. These illustrations are adapted to the character and content of the individual book in which they are found. The author looks back at their origin, explains their iconographic peculiarities and the way they were designed, and provides a complete catalog with reproductions.
