Summary

Dostoevsky: The Writer and Orthodoxy

Collection of Papers

Before the reader are texts about Dostoevsky written by the great Orthodox minds of Russia and Serbia. Dostoevsky is one of the few who believed that the literary word can be a search for the Word of God, for the Logos by which the world was created. Defender of the humiliated and offended, the Russian classic testified that there is no Truth outside of Christ. Without him, we wouldn't know what endless trials the Grand Inquisitor's utopia of the "crystal castle" will bring to a dull and fed-up humanity.

That is why Orthodoxy is the key to discovering the meaning of Fyodor Mihajlovich's great work. The texts collected here by Russian and Serbian authors, some of which appear in the Serbian language for the first time, are a real guide through the novels, short stories, diaries and letters of the great Russian writer. Also, this collection is something that the Serbian audience was missing. A kind of Christian literary criticism and journalism has yet to be affirmed at the university, but also at the wider level in Serbia.

Dostoyevsky and Christian literary criticism

In Russia, Christian literary criticism continued to progress, and this can be seen in this collection, primarily through the texts of Fyodor Tarasov and Vladimir Zaharov, for the Serbian culture of previously undiscovered critics and theorists. What has remained irreparable to this day is the lack of knowledge of the thoughts and works of Saint Justin Ćelijski, both among students and among professors of the Faculty of Belgrade (not counting the Orthodox Faculty of Theology). That is why his, as well as the texts of St. Nicholas of Žički and Ohridski, although already known, could not be omitted from this collection.

Dostoyevsky is a writer whose works will always be read. But to understand it, we need books like this one. It is deliberately not comprehensive (because the comprehensiveness of Dostoevsky's interpretation is impossible), but it is enough to bring us closer to Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov and other works, without which the world around us would be much poorer. those who for a century and a half have been following the path begun by the "apostles of Orthodox realism".
