Catechism of the Catholic Church. Compendium
Compendium
11. In October 1992, Pope John Paul II, of blessed memory, handed over the Catechism of the Catholic Church to the faithful of the whole world, presenting it as a "starting text" for catechesis renewed on the living source of faith. The same John Paul II. in 2003 he founded a special commission, under the chairmanship of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, then prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, with the task of drafting a Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which will contain a concise overview of the essential contents of faith and morals.
The Compendium is characterized by three main features: close connection with the Catechism of the Catholic Church; dialog box; the use of images in catechesis.
The compendium presents the contents of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in the form of a dialogue following the classic layout of the Catechism: First part - Belief; second part – Celebration of the Christian mystery; the third part – Life in Christ; the fourth part - Christian prayer.
It boldly approaches the great problems of the modern world, showing respect for scientific progress, appealing to conscience and the rights of the person.
In the form of a dialogue between teacher and student, almost imagining that he is in the school of a true Teacher, the Compendium in simple and accessible language gives a clear, vital and enchanting exposition of the Christian message in its integrity and completeness.
With its content and approach, it is an excellent means of catechesis for all ages.
