Reinhard Frieling: The Way of Ecumenical Thought

The book The Way of Ecumenical Thought - Introduction to Ecumenology, authored by the famous German ecumenical theologian, Reinhard Frieling, is the tenth volume in the Bibliotheca Flaciana series. This interdisciplinary study represents the result of the study of ecumenical efforts from their very beginnings, at the end of the 19th century, until the eighties of the twentieth century, while offering, partly historically-chronologically and partly theologically-problematic, an account of the development of ecumenism through the prism of various developments within Christianity (social, peace, missionary, biblical, etc.). The immediate context of the presentation includes all the most important denominations, dynamically placed in the wider context of socio-political, religious and cultural events of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In addition to the results of ecumenical efforts, Frieling's work also introduces the reader to the problems and concrete limitations faced by the ecumenical movement, which represent - such as, for example, the still unsolved question of different conceptions of unity that are present in Christian confessions - a significant problem in inter-Christian dialogue. Frieling's study, which presents the multiplicity of ecumenical efforts throughout world Christianity and shows an interest in the interaction of the world and the Church as an important factor on the ecumenical path, is a significant contribution to ecumenical theological literature in the Croatian language and, in addition to being a college textbook, is especially suitable for all researchers of ecumenical issues, as well as the increasing number of builders of the ecumenical scene in Croatia.
