Summary
Tomislav Krušlin: Shrines of the Croatian People
In the book, the author first provides the basic assumptions for reading the book: he describes the territorial structure of the Church in Croatia, and then interprets basic concepts such as shrine and pilgrimage, including part of the history of pilgrimage practice in the Church that led to the emergence of the shrines we know today. Presenting the sanctuaries in detail, the author does not hide that one of his important intentions is to teach the faithful, to answer the question "who is that saint on the altar", why is he there, why is it important...
First, the Croatian national sanctuaries are presented, which in their own way describe the spiritual landscape of the Croatian people. These are the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island in Solin, the National Shrine of the Mother of God Bistrica in Marija Bistrica, the National Shrine of St. Josip in Karlovac, Croatian National Shrine of St. Nikola Tavelić in Šibenik, the National Shrine of Bl. Augustin Kažotić in Trogir and the Church of the Croatian Martyrs in Udbina.
Then he begins to describe the other sanctuaries in Croatia, keeping to the metropolitan level, and as a novelty of the second edition, eight Bosnian-Herzegovinian sanctuaries and Međugorje as a place of prayer and reconciliation are presented.
The sanctuaries shown in this way, in pictures and words, with recorded beginnings and development, with a description of the most significant the events that took place in them, provide not only a wealth of information, but allow the reader a new look at the strength of the faith of the Croatian people and the wealth of places where God works in a special way.
