Summary
Tonči Matulić: Mourning stones of the Croatian desert
Reconciliation and spiritual renewal in the light of a prophetic and critical analysis of the state of mind and consciousness of contemporary Croatian society
The book consists of a total of fourteen chapters divided into four parts in which the author discusses current social, political, economic and church events and turmoil. The purpose of the book, Matulić pointed out in the introduction, is to serve man, primarily the Christian soul - a Christian who faces many complex challenges in contemporary society. Pointing to the controversies surrounding the role and place of Christians and the Church in Croatian society, Matulić calls for Christian responsibility for building a better political community and society, indicating the way to go.
The reason for the creation of the book is the phenomenon of the third Croatian president, elected in the last presidential elections. But the book does not deal with him personally, although it is not always easy to separate his person from the phenomena the book deals with: firstly, the third Croatian president convincingly defeated an opponent who did not hide his Catholic commitment and secondly, his declaration as a non-believer, i.e. an agnostic, which caused a certain panic and irrational reactions in the part of the religious public before the elections itself. consciousness of our Christian soul, which is a metaphor for the Christian life or the life of a Christian in specific historical and social circumstances. Since the Croatian political community and society are going through a deep spiritual crisis, the author first of all tries to look into the Christian soul and find out the causes of its current numbness and anxiety. Croatian society is Christian, i.e. Catholic, and consequently the deep spiritual crisis of Croatian society is simultaneously also a deep spiritual crisis of the Christian soul.
