Summary
Niklas Luhmann: Social systems
Basics of general theory
Luhmann presents his understanding of sociology, which has society as a whole in mind, within the framework of systems theory. The concept of system arose as a result of the tendency of interdisciplinary study of phenomena, as an attempt to unify fragmented scientific disciplines. In this sense, common basic analytical terms are formulated which are applied in different disciplines. These are, first of all, the concepts of open and closed system, interdependence, isolation and interaction, centralization and decentralization. In the work Social systems, Luhmann expands the list of basic terms and covers: meaning, time, event, element, relationship, complexity, contingency, action, communication, system, environment, world, expectation, structure, process, self-reference, self-organization, description, self-description, unity, reflection, difference, information, interpretation, interaction, society, contradiction, conflict, etc...
