Summary
Eduardo Lourenco: Disappointed Europe
Contributions for a European mythology
In a sense, Europe was (and is) a victim of its own success. Not only has it become a place of refuge for victims, real or potential, of the new movement on the world market, especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but also because it (still) represents a brake for the complete triumph of this new order on all levels. In this field, it is not about ethics, but exclusively about power relations, in the most radical sense of the word, which include so-called relations - but which are the result of including in them what is "immaterial" - up to cultural and entertainment relations. In this struggle, which I don't know if it is justified to equate it with a classic conflict of historical-political actors of a more or less specific profile (USA, Japan, Europe, Islam), what is called "Europe" is the least defined "entity" not only because from a historical and cultural point of view it is so, but because none of those participants in the world scene is interested in it becoming so. This is the objective cause of European fragility. (Author)
