Ivan Berčić's Verbal Fragments in the Russian National Library I-II
Description of the Fragments
A very valuable edition of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Russian National Library and the Old Slavonic Institute, the book Ivan Berčić's Verbal Fragments in the Russian National Library is a phototype edition with a description of the largest collection of Glagolitic fragments outside of Croatia, recorded in 1997 in Russia National Library in Petrograd.
Philologist and biblical expert, Ivan Berčić (1824-1870) from Zadra systematically collected Glagolitic monuments - manuscripts, manuscript fragments, documents and printed books. He collected a rich collection that included 154 fragments of mostly handwritten missals, breviaries and compendiums from the 14th and 15th centuries, "rescued" from the bindings of other books. After Berčić's death, his collection was first offered to the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb. Due to financial difficulties, the Academy could not buy it. The collection was then offered to the National Museum in Prague, which, also due to lack of money, further recommended it to the final buyer, the Imperial Public Library in Petrograd.
Latin and Cyrillic edition.
