Summary
Slavica Marković: Vanja Radauš - drawings
Vanja Radauš is a complex artistic personality, one of the most original Croatian artists of the twentieth century. He has exceptional talent, great energy, great erudition and high artistic reach in his works. His early work and his two post-war decades are marked by intense sculptural work, a period of large sculptural commissions and the installation of public monuments. In that period, drawing was his second activity, but from the mid-sixties to the mid-seventies, in addition to literary and poetic work, he was occupied with intensive drawing. Drawing was a constant need for Radauš, and throughout all the years of his active artistic creation, he had a drawing oeuvre more extensive than all Croatian sculptors of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries combined. Thousands of preserved drawings in several cycles, of which only a small part is presented in this monograph, reveal to us the area of his artistic interests, his handwriting, his style, and the subtlest vibrations of his being.
