Summary

Helena Sablić-Tomić, Goran Rem: Slavonic Text of Croatian Literature

Slavonic Text of Croatian Literature, is a historian of Slavonic written literature from the XII century. century until the end of the 20th century. On more than 400 pages, it offers us a diachronic insight into the texts that have shaped the literary and cultural reality of the Slavonic intercontinental region for nine centuries. It was preceded by the collection of material (inventio), its arrangement (dispositio) and the final linguistic fixation (elocutio). Each of these factors, with the first one being the most painstaking, required patient, long-term and systematic work. (...) This ambitious literary project, which is usually backed by institutional support, was realized by the authors while respecting the prescribed norms for literary historiography: they respected the chronological sequence and carried out periodization, provided an insight into the integrity of cultural-historical events as well as into the dominant poetic matrices of separate periods, organized the narration according to causal-temporal relations, equipped the book with a selection from the literature (literary-historical overviews and subject literature with monographs and anthologies, as well as selected titles from periodicals), added to the book an index of names and brief biobibliographic definitions in the Glossary. The authors did not deviate from the structuralist postulate about the primacy of the literary text, but at the same time they fertilized it with a poststructuralist view of literature, which necessarily deprives the text of its self-sufficiency and places it in a wider communication space of a network of discursive codes that make up the total space of a culture. A good frame of reference for the book is also numerous paratexts attached as illustrative material (covers of the first editions, dedications, prefaces to volunteer štioc).
