Summary
Peter Szendy: Bending: four variations on Henri Sala
The book looks at the work of the Albanian-French artist Henri Sala, highlighting the key role that music and sound play in his sensory installations. Peter Sandy, the author of these four essays, draws on the sensory experience offered by the works of Henri Sala to explore the porosity of the connections between image and sound and their relationship to space, history and time. Since the 1990s, artist Henri Sala's work has expanded into a wide range of media, including video, photography, installation, and more recently drawing and sculpture. His works explore the boundaries between image and sound with the aim of generating carefully composed overlapping temporalities. Through a new form of language, his work opens up a multitude of perspectives and interpretations, connecting past, present and future. Since the artist attaches great importance to light, sound and scenography, his works are often presented in immersive spaces that stimulate our senses and create a connection between the body and architecture. The book was originally published on the occasion of the exhibition Henri Salle: Le Temps coudé, held in 2019 at the Museum of Modern Art in Luxembourg.
