The author is a professor of general sociology at the Technical University of Berlin. In this book, he deals with the sociology of religion - the origin of the discipline, the development of its problems and several central theories, findings and results. One of the chapters is dedicated to the state and development of contemporary religiosity. The presentation is mainly focused on the sociology of religion in the German-speaking area, but it also pays attention to the developments of the Romance, and above all, the Anglo-Saxon sociology of religion insofar as they are present in the discussions of the German-speaking area.
