Summary
Joelle Zask: Art and Democracy
In her study "Art and Democracy" Joelle Zask offered a completely new and authentic view of the relationship between art and democracy. Although everything is against the observation of art and democracy as comparative values, the author claims that both terms are based on the same basic principles. For her, democracy does not have an exclusively political meaning, but represents a set of institutions that protect, encourage or renew the development of the individuality of each individual, artists as well as any other citizen. The book is the result of research experience, because the basic material is based on conversations with artists, gallerists and individual collectors, in the period between 2000 and 2002, which certainly contributes to its relevance. The reading is very stimulating, especially for society and culture that strives to overcome the pattern dominated by directed state policy in culture, lack of personal and private initiative, and ossification of organizational forms in the field of culture.
