Mladenka Šolman: Željko Hegedušić

A luxurious, bilingual edition with 153 color and 93 black and white reproductions. Željko Hegedušić was born in Tuzla on July 22, 1906. from father Lovra, professor of classical languages, and mother Dragica Horvatin. The family moved in 1909. to Zagreb, where he attends public school and high school. In 1925, he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, where his professors were Ferdo Kovačević, Maksimilijan Vanka, Jozo Kljaković, Tomislav Krizman, Ljubo Babić, and he took a special course with Vladimir Becic. After graduating in 1930. receives a one-year scholarship from the French Institute in Zagreb to stay in Paris. At the same time, there are Vjeko Parać, Ivo Rein, Edo Kovačević, Antun Motika, Antun Šimek, Kamilo Tompa, Vanja Radauš... They participate in the preparation of II. Earth exhibition at Galerie Billiet in 1931. and returns to Zagreb in 1932. He participates as a guest at the Earth exhibitions, and at the VII. (the last and forbidden one!) was supposed to perform as a member of the group. He was a drawing professor at the gymnasium in Sremska Mitrovica from 1933-1939. year, where in 1934 he married his high school classmate Bratislava Vasiljević. Since 1939 he is a professor at II. real gymnasium, and then at the 1st gymnasium in Zagreb. During the war years, in a group of Croatian artists and under the guidance of his brother Krsta, he painted the shrine in Marija Bistrica, then taught at the School of Applied Arts, and from 1950 for a short time at the newly founded Academy of Applied Arts in Zagreb. He participates in the performance of the curtains of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb Anno Domini 1573. He also collaborates with Krsto in the creation of frescoes at Tjentište. He has been retired from painting since 1971. He was a member of the Independent Croatian Artists group, and after the war, the Mart group. He was engaged in copying frescoes, illustrated books, created numerous decorations, was an art consultant at Interpublik, Likum, Centroreklam, published a graphic folder of 8 lithographs. He exhibited at numerous exhibitions in the country and the world, participated in many art colonies. He received several awards and distinctions. In 1971, the author organized monographic exhibition (paintings, drawings, graphics, 1931-1971) in the Modern Gallery in Zagreb (Mladenka Šolman), 1991. retrospective of drawings (drawings, 1925-1990) in the Karaš HDLUZ Gallery (text: Vlado Bužančić), 1996. retrospective of graphics in the Cabinet of Graphics HAZU (text: Mirna Abaffv), and in 1999 a comprehensive retrospective exhibition of the artist was organized in Klović's palaces.
