If a man gives in to all his desires, or if he indulges them, there will be no internal struggle, no "friction", there will be no fire. But if, in order to achieve a certain goal, he struggles with the desires that hinder him in it, he will light a fire that will gradually transform his inner world into a unique whole. Man must understand the following - his evolution is necessary only for himself. And no one is obliged or intends to help him. On the contrary, the forces that oppose the evolution of the great masses of humanity also oppose the evolution of the individual. Man can outwit them, while humanity cannot.
Later you will understand that these obstacles are very useful to man - if they did not exist, they should be created deliberately, because man, overcoming obstacles, develops the qualities he needs. Georgy Ivanovich Gurdjieff (1877-1949) is one of the most famous Russian metaphysicians.
"Most people, today, live in one dream. Some are engaged in science in that dream, and some even write books".
