Summary
Roland Villeneuve: The History of Cannibalism
Anthropophagy, omophagy, cannibalism: so many synonyms to denote the habit of eating human flesh without a sense of disgust, a habit that goes back to dark times, to ancestral customs. Omophagy is a natural tendency of our species that distinguishes it from others. True, instinct drives some animal species to kill their young. Only man kills out of gourmet impulses and there should be no doubt that the meat of his neighbor is excellent, since the demand for it, over the centuries, led to real slaughters.
Great explorers of the 18th century. century they considered these customs incredible, just as we today consider the insane way of life led by the "beasts" of Versailles or many members of the Victorian era. Monomania that does not hesitate in the face of murder, cruelty, savagery - which we already see in children - truly belong to every era. Do the civilized, or those who consider themselves civilized, really have such clean hands and such pure hearts?
