Summary
Alain Badiou: A Little Pocket Pantheon
Alain Badiou's textual "Pantheon" is a different kind of manifesto for philosophy. It collects tributes to deceased French philosophers of the 20th century, which were created on various occasions during the last thirty years. In these portraits, Badiou not only describes the intellectual relationship he had with the legacy of deceased philosophers, but he also cares about emphasizing the philosophical heights that their thought reached, thereby implicitly criticizing the contemporary philosophical scene in France. "However, I am happy to be able to say here," writes Badiou, "that, in the face of what we are forced to swallow today, I love all fourteen late philosophers. Yes, I love them."
