Dafne Vidanec: Narratives of modernity
"Narratives of modernity: moral-ethical views of social reality" is a work composed of selected, individual essays - narratives, published in the form of a column in Vjesnikovi Stajališti i Tribina (2006 - 2012) and to a lesser extent in Zagrebački list (2017). Thematically, the book includes moral-philosophical questions - criticism of our local and global everyday life in the field of morality and politics; economy and education; religion (and church politics). From an epistemological point of view, impregnated with synthesized insights derived from the teachings of famous thinkers in the history of philosophy: Plato, Aristotle, Aurelius Augustine, Pascal and Descartes, Kant, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Luhmann and, of course, Charles Taylor. The book is intended for a wider readership; its parts can be read as a story, an essay or a scientific-popular text, which depends on the point of view and the preference of anyone who, for example, wants to find out who or what is hidden behind the story of Christmas, what is the relationship between Santa Claus, Socrates, Jesus Christ and George Michael; why do we read about the Gospel of Judas or the murder of Ivana Hodak and who will understand the narrative about Alojzije Stepinac?!
