Summary
History of Greek Philosophy 5: Late Plato and the Academy
At a time when European cultural and scientific circles and institutions are increasingly investigating the roots of European culture, the Italian Platonist G. Reale warned about one of the most important sources: Plato's philosophy, which is based on metaphysical awareness and the demand to care for one's own soul. The fifth volume of Guthrie's A History of Greek Philosophy focuses on Plato's late dialogues Cratylus, Parmenides, Theaetetus, Statesmen, Philebus and Timaeus.
The Timaeus was and remains one of the most influential philosophical writings and has inspired poets, artists and even physicists (Heisenberg) for centuries. A particularly measured presentation with a sense of correctness of interpretation and a multitude of innovative interpretations are the hallmarks of this 5th volume.
