Mijo Vjenceslav Batinić was born in 1846 in Fojnica. He lost his father very early, so he grew up in a family with his mother and sister. Difficult life in a family without a father, forces his mother to send Mija to a monastery as a small boy. Brother Mijo Kutleša took care of Mija, who took him with him to Kupres, where he was a parish priest. There, Mijo acquired the basics of literacy. He entered the novitiate in the Fojnica monastery in 1862. He began his philosophical and theological studies in Bosnia, continued in Italy, and ended in Đakovo. He was ordained a priest in 1869.
His pastoral journey in Bosnia began in Fojnica, where he was a vicar, then Treščani and Bugojno, then he was a pastor in Uskoplje, Bugojno, Brestovsko, guard and master of novices in Fojnica. He was elected Provincial Definitor and Secretary on two occasions, in 1897 he became General Definitor in the Order of Friars Minor.
His great love for the Latin language and history pushed him to research archival records, his stay in Rome gave him the opportunity to enter the Roman archives, and all this resulted in several excellent historical works such as: The Biography of Fr. Augustin Miletić, the Franciscan Monastery in Fojnica from XIV-XX centuries, etc.
Above all his works rises one, which is indispensable if you want to write a single fragment about the history of Bosnia Srebrena, and that is Activity of the Franciscans in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the first six centuries of their stay.
Fr. Mijo Vjenceslav Batinić died in his Fojnica on August 26, 1921. year.
