Krist Novoselic: Grunge & Citizens
Krist Novoselic – GRUNGE AND CITIZENS – Let's fix that broken democracy
Krist Novoselic, bassist and founder of Nirvana, one of the most important and influential bands in the history of rock music, writes about his musical and political maturation in the book Grunge and Citizens. Croatian by origin, he attended grammar school in Zadar, became world famous as a member of the legendary rock group Nirvana, and later became one of the most politically aware rock musicians.
From his first forays into rock music, side by side with his friend Kurt Cobain, to his evolution into a champion of American electoral reform, Novoselic lives his rock-political story. The essence of his "platform" is that the creative momentum and rocker force can be transferred from smoky clubs and marginalized environments to the field of real-life political events and there achieve a series of small victories comparable to those in the rocker world. Novoselic's unquenchable rebellion and independent and free-spirited outlook on life are beautifully reflected in this encouraging call to action to "farmers and citizens", but also to others who do not feel like that, to fix this broken democracy together! Or, as the biggest rock star of a failed country once sang: "Come on, get moving..."
