Danijel Dragojević: Cvjetni trg

»Language most often compares man and his life to the life of nature. The largest number of metaphors grow out of this similarity. In them, man and his life are comparable to everything. And as in almost all important matters, one could say here: it is good that it is so and it is not good that it is so. Namely, we should never get tired of comparing, after all, life does it without our will, but we should not forget that no metaphor leads to a conclusion, nor does it introduce signs of equality among similarities. In the metaphor of the bird and the singer, it seems that we went too much for intention and less for accuracy. We envy the bird and its freedom too much. However, if a bird were given the gift of speech and I asked her what she thought of man and his walk, she would surely express her admiration and envy. And not without reason.«
