Summary
Rita Monaldi, Francesco Sorti: Malaparte, death like me
Island of Capri, August 1939. Italy is in the jaws of fascism, and World War II has just begun. At a glittering party under the stars full of Italian aristocrats, Nazis, spies and millionaires, the writer Curzio Malaparte, the great seducer and enfant terrible of the fascist movement, meets a mysterious beauty, the woman he has been waiting for all his life. But the night is still young and before it ends, Malaparte will clash with an SS officer and get involved in a plot that could decide the fate of the world, and two agents of Mussolini's secret police will let him know that they suspect him of the murder of a young English poetess. Aware that his imprisonment brings death, Malaparte hides, but does not surrender. Before they come for him, he is determined to find out who is trying to trick him, but also to draw a line under the series of adventures, mistakes, heroism and cowardice that he called life.
"A great work of literature, a difficult undertaking that the writer couple Monaldi & Sorti managed. A great celebration of the beauty of storytelling." - Walter Veltroni
"An explosive thriller that is swallowed in the blink of an eye." -Il Messaggero
"A crime story with an ingenious solution. Heartfelt thanks to the authors." -Il giornale d'Italia
"A great plot whose strength lies in the adopted Malaparte style, the musicality of repetition, the ironically pathetic carelessness, the expert ratio of story and chronicle." - Stenio Solinas, Il Giornale
"Although written by Monaldi & Sorti after his death, Malaparte, Death Like Me is Malaparte's best novel. His distinctive narrative voice in the novel is brash and polished, like the shoes of a tango dancer." - Diego Gabutti, Italia Oggi
