Andrić Ivo

Summary

Ivo Andrić: We do not live, we are life

The book offers the reader an insight into six of Pišč's earliest notebooks and manuscript bundles - which moved from the pocket of a student's coat, prisoner's shirt, diplomatic tailcoat and finally from the table to the legacy of the manuscript treasury - bearing witness to the different phases of Pišč's life and work. At the same time, the notes bring a unique view into the intimate world of a sensitive man and a great artist of words. Andić's early notebooks provide insight into the personal and artistic development of a young, poor student from the outlying province of the Monarchy, Bosnia, who carried part of the burden of the Sarajevo assassination on his frail shoulders. Andrije's writing in notebooks stems from the usual manner of writers to keep a kind of diary about artistic creation, about reading other authors and dialogue with them, along with recording plans and sketches for their ideas, autobiographical records of travelogues and memoirs, sentences, folk wisdom, lyrical records, leaving a unique testimony about me as an artistic being on the literary path and about me as a human being in the world. This book represents a special event in the study and presentation of Andrić's work, because after more than four decades, almost unknown Andrić's notebooks are in front of the reader in one book.
