Summary
Deborah Ellis: Parvana's Journey
In Parvana's Journey, the sequel to the famous novel The Girl from Afghanistan, the Taliban still control Afghanistan, but the war still rages and Kabul is in ruins. Parvana's father died, and her mother could be anywhere in the devastated country with the rest of the family. The only thing Parvana knows is that she has to find them. Despite her youth and disguised as a boy, this brave girl embarks on an uncertain journey and meets other children fleeing the war - in a village destroyed by bombing, she finds a little boy, then a nine-year-old girl who believes that, when it comes to mines, she has magical powers, and a boy with one leg. The children continue their journey together, and their friendship will turn into bonds of love, like the family they all miss. It is the strength of that love and friendship that will help them survive in the worst conditions.
