Summary
edited by Baillie Tolkien
translated from English by Zlatko Crnković
A beautiful picture book composed of letters from Santa Claus that arrived at the home of J.R.R. every Christmas. Tolkien to his children. The letters are stories written in shaky handwriting about the adventures of Santa Claus at the North Pole, accompanied by pictures of those events. The writer guides us with words and pictures through imaginative, short, wonderful stories about a character that all children love or, unfortunately, only wish for. There are very few picture books in which, as here, Santa Claus describes his predicament in detail: we find out how his helper the Northern White Bear broke his leg, the reindeer ran away and scattered the gifts everywhere, the White Bear got lost in caves full of ancient drawings on the walls (on one whole page Santa Claus redrawn those drawings), the goblins dig tunnels to get hold of the gifts intended for small children. A picture book that both children and adults will enjoy. The illustrations accompanying the letters are original Tolkien illustrations.
