Summary
Evlija Celebija: Travelogue
Celebija's Seyahatnama / Travelogue is an important source for researching Ottoman history of the second half of the 17th century and is a treasure trove of cultural-historical, folklore, gastronomic, geographical and other data.
This reading has always primarily testified that Evlija Celebija was a "world traveler" who was primarily interested in storytelling and adventures. He enjoys the supernatural and mythical, combines legends, dreams and reality, makes comparisons and draws witty analogies, and for him exaggeration is only a literary tool with which he tries to surprise and impress the reader and attract his attention. With his great imagination, innovative language and recognizable style, Celebija wrote one of the most important and famous works of world travel literature. Before us are newly prepared excerpts from Seyahatnama, translated by Sejfudin Kemura, which refer to the Bosnian Ajalet, first published in the Gazette of the National Museum in 1908.
