Summary
H.P. Lovecraft: The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
The novel The Case of Charles Dexter Ward is Lovecraft's longest prose work and one of only three novels he wrote. He is the fruit of a lifelong passion dedicated to the history of his immediate surroundings: New England and within it the Rhode Island peninsula, and above all his hometown, Providence. A great effort is evident, both in the exhaustive research of historical and other material (non-fiction), as well as in the imaginative and creative organization of this material into a plausible, exciting and creepy prose plot (fiction). The result is a novel that, despite its relatively modest scope, today's scholars of horror literature, as well as its lay fans, consider one of Lovecraft's best and most impressive works and one of the best horror novels ever written.
