Fila Filota | Fila Toma

Summary

Filot Philo, Tom Philo: In the Name of Life

The Greatest Court Defense

They firmly believed that "God is in heaven, judgment is on earth." And that no one has the right to take someone's life. They fought to prove, even with the most hardened killers, that death is not a punishment, because no one and nothing can change the dead. They defended many who were staring death in the eye. But also those who were condemned and rejected by society, like the Hague prisoners, Slobodan Milosevic, Jovanka Broz, Žarko Laušević... Every fifth of the twenty-six went to Filotti before the firing squad. Because at the time he defended human life was cheap, juries were cruel, executioners by profession. One of the defendants was killed. Rejected by everyone, he personally erected a monument to him. In the Mathhausen camp, Filota himself stood in front of the death machine. He survived by accident. Or fate intervened. He watched people being taken to the execution grounds. Because of this, as he said, he could be trusted to know the "breath of death". From birth, Toma heard about the cruelty his father suffered. He knew: no one has the right to order someone to disappear. Certainly, such power does not belong to man. "Don't kill!" it was therefore their first vow in life and in court. This book is based on 14 real events. About them and themselves. Because real life writes the best novels.
