Summary
Philip Dick: Valis
A philosophical novel, the first part of an unfinished trilogy, strongly based on American popular culture in the 1970s. The main character, Horselover Fat (the author's alter ego) believes that his visions show hidden facts about the reality of life on Earth, especially a gnostic vision of an aspect of the divine, and he begins to investigate them, joined by a group of followers. The book is rich in the author's interpretations of various religions throughout history, with references to Gnosis, Rosicrucian thought, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Christianity, especially the Bible (Book of Daniel, New Testament Epistles, etc.)
"VALIS" is an autobiographical SF and metaphysical detective story, the first novel of the trilogy with which Philip K. Dick mysteriously unlocked and concluded his incomparable opus.
